Verses about turning away from the signs of Allah

Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away

So turn away from whoever turns his back on Our message and desires not except the worldly life.

And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, ‘ Passing magic.’

Say, ‘ It is great news

So We might test them therein. And whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord He will put into arduous punishment.

But when it is said to them, ‘ Beware of what is before you and what is behind you; perhaps you will receive mercy… ‘

And the Messenger has said, ‘ O my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Qur’an as [a thing] abandoned.’

And when it is said to them, ‘ Prostrate to the Most Merciful,’ they say, ‘ And what is the Most Merciful? Should we prostrate to that which you order us?’ And it increases them in aversion.

Thus, [O Muhammad], We relate to you from the news of what has preceded. And We have certainly given you from Us the Qur’an.

And whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, he will have a depressed life, and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection blind.’

And no revelation comes to them anew from the Most Merciful except that they turn away from it.

And when adversity touches you at sea, lost are [all] those you invoke except for Him. But when He delivers you to the land, you turn away [from Him]. And ever is man ungrateful.

And when We bestow favor upon the disbeliever, he turns away and distances himself; and when evil touches him, he is ever despairing.

And how many a sign within the heavens and earth do they pass over while they, therefrom, are turning away.

And certainly did the companions of Thamud deny the messengers.

And no sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord except that they turn away therefrom.

And if their evasion is difficult for you, then if you are able to seek a tunnel into the earth or a stairway into the sky to bring them a sign, [then do so]. But if Allah had willed, He would have united them upon guidance. So never be of the ignorant.

Or lest you say, ‘ If only the Scripture had been revealed to us, we would have been better guided than they.’ So there has [now] come to you a clear evidence from your Lord and a guidance and mercy. Then who is more unjust than one who denies the verses of Allah and turns away from them? We will recompense those who turn away from Our verses with the worst of punishment for their having turned away.

And when our verses are recited to him, he turns away arrogantly as if he had not heard them, as if there was in his ears deafness. So give him tidings of a painful punishment.

But they turned away [refusing], so We sent upon them the flood of the dam, and We replaced their two [fields of] gardens with gardens of bitter fruit, tamarisks and something of sparse lote trees.

As a giver of good tidings and a warner; but most of them turn away, so they do not hear.

But if they turn away, then say, ‘ I have warned you of a thunderbolt like the thunderbolt [that struck] ‘Aad and Thamud.

And when We bestow favor upon man, he turns away and distances himself; but when evil touches him, then he is full of extensive supplication.

But if they turn away - then We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], over them as a guardian; upon you is only [the duty of] notification. And indeed, when We let man taste mercy from us, he rejoices in it; but if evil afflicts him for what his hands have put forth, then indeed, man is ungrateful.

Woe to every sinful liar

We did not create the heavens and earth and what is between them except in truth and [for] a specified term. But those who disbelieve, from that of which they are warned, are turning away.

And who is more unjust than one who is reminded of the verses of his Lord but turns away from them and forgets what his hands have put forth? Indeed, We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And if you invite them to guidance - they will never be guided, then - ever.

[The time of] their account has approached for the people, while they are in heedlessness turning away.

Or have they taken gods besides Him? Say, [O Muhammad], ‘ Produce your proof. This [Qur’an] is the message for those with me and the message of those before me.’ But most of them do not know the truth, so they are turning away.

And We made the sky a protected ceiling, but they, from its signs, are turning away.

Say, ‘ Who can protect you at night or by day from the Most Merciful?’ But they are, from the remembrance of their Lord, turning away.

My verses had already been recited to you, but you were turning back on your heels

But if the Truth had followed their inclinations, the heavens and the earth and whoever is in them would have been ruined. Rather, We have brought them their message, but they, from their message, are turning away.

And who is more unjust than one who is reminded of the verses of his Lord; then he turns away from them? Indeed We, from the criminals, will take retribution.

No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell],

And [recall] when We took the covenant from the Children of Israel, [enjoining upon them], ‘ Do not worship except Allah; and to parents do good and to relatives, orphans, and the needy. And speak to people good [words] and establish prayer and give zakah.’ Then you turned away, except a few of you, and you were refusing.

Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allah are the deaf and dumb who do not use reason.

Do you not consider, [O Muhammad], those who were given a portion of the Scripture? They are invited to the Scripture of Allah that it should arbitrate between them; then a party of them turns away, and they are refusing.

And when they are called to [the words of] Allah and His Messenger to judge between them, at once a party of them turns aside [in refusal].

But when he gave them from His bounty, they were stingy with it and turned away while they refused.

And whenever a surah is revealed, they look at each other, [saying], ‘ Does anyone see you?’ and then they dismiss themselves. Allah has dismissed their hearts because they are a people who do not understand.
